Overview

The purpose of the BA/UX lead role is not an individual contributor job with some management responsibility. This is a hands-on leadership role for a hands-on team leader. It is your job to frame the problems to be solved, not solve the problems. The focus of the role is to elicit and manage the real needs of internal partners and end users, with the BA/UX team serving as the conduit for requirements to our technical team.

The BA/UX Lead role is familiar with all aspects of the function, the functional lead on our you-centric Career Map - it’s all about growth! This team leader is assigned our most complex work and is expected to lead efforts across teams as necessary to fulfill scope. This individual mentors and directs more junior team members, and will have direct supervisory responsibility for the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead an existing team to deliver UX from conceptualization to launch and follow-up for multiple projects.

  • Grow our relationships with existing product teams.

  • Define and own a varied menu of UX design processes for project initiatives, including ideation, user-flow analysis, wire-framing, interaction design, and execution.

  • Work with project managers on project objectives and allocate resources to achieve the objectives as measured against managed expectations.

  • Advocate for UX in the broader organization.

  • Elicit, validate, and document requirements for technology changes.

  • Responsible for the decomposition of high-level business and user requirements into functional requirements and quality attributes.

  • Evaluation of current systems and processes to determine required changes.

  • Benchmarks process and best practices.

  • Formulate and present recommendations, including relevant business processes.

  • Define and/or develop relevant business processes.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for multiple applications and/or business processes.

  • Advise and mentor more junior team members.

  • Interview new team member candidates. Weed out the weak and hire the best via mortal combat, or whatever mildly more appropriate means are available to you at the time.

Key Qualifications

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5.91+ years’ experience in a UX environment

  • Experience leading design thinking processes to define products

  • Proven ability to influence and at least 3 years of hands-on team leadership in a multi-team environment

  • Bonus points for experience with enterprise applications.

SKILLS:

  • Bringing humans together to achieve a vision with common goals and shared values.

  • Making tradeoffs in an environment of often-conflicting objectives, i.e., deliver great experience on a deadline with fixed resources.

  • Mature leadership with proven experience in seeing the bigger picture and your role in it.

  • Balancing creativity with consistency.

  • Understanding how to reduce work to processes, and then move on to solving new challenges rather than re-solving existing problems.

  • Develop high-level concepts for features and functionality, and document through the creation of wireframes, user flows, site maps and prototypes

  • Document the design solutions via wireframes, designs, user flows and diagrams

  • Knowledge of JIRA and Confluence desired.

  • Participate in/observe usability testing and other research. Take notes on notable events and issues

  • Help create testing artifacts, e.g., a user flow to be tested, or mockups for the test

  • Formulate test questions for surveys and other testing tasks

  • Stay current in the fields of UX and technology

  • Provide design recommendations based on client insights

  • Must be self-motivated, client experience oriented and a strong team player

  • Must be extremely detail-oriented, able to define ideas down to a specification level

  • Good project management skills; ability to plan, manage, and execute on simultaneous projects under tight deadlines in a collaborative, agency-like environment; must be able to drive project, debate merits of approach and work effectively with others.

  • Good relationship management skills, especially interpersonal, verbal, and written communications.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
